Oh. My. God. Finally!
Ok so I know I write a lot on judgement, but that is because I deal with it a lot in my life. But today is a little different. Kinda, but not really if that makes sense. Alright, so about 30 minutes ago, I went in the kitchen to do my womanly duties of making a sandwich (women don’t get offended by that!). I started looking around at the food, and the first thing that popped into my head was money. I don’t understand what it is with people and the need to have name brand things! I understand that people have preferences. I have preferences. I prefer Dr. Pepper over Dr. Thunder, not because it’s “name brand,” but I think it just tastes better. I prefer Camel Menthol over L&M Menthol, but I am on a budget. I am in college, and I have bills to pay. If all I can afford at the time is Dr. Thunder and L&M, that’s fine. I don’t have a problem with off brand things. People are the same way with clothes, electronics, cars, and sometimes toiletries. It kills me! I was in a relationship where off brand wasn’t an option. Everything had to be the best of the best. I’m sorry, but is it necessary to spend so much money on something that will barely be touched or that won’t last that long? I don’t think so! I like to have money for stuff that I need or something that will make me happy. I’m guilty of this! I won’t deny that! Do I spend money on things that won’t last long? Depending on how you view hair dye and piercings, yes, but when I don’t have the money, I won’t get those things. The judgement that society passes on people who don’t have Apple products, wear Hollister, carry Gucci, or drive a Ferrari is ridiculous! I’m not saying those things aren’t nice or that people shouldn’t have them. If you work for your money, and you’re responsible with it, go ahead and spend it on what you want! You deserve to be happy and reward yourself for working your ass off! You understand (or at some point you did) what it is like to be on a budget, and that will help you in life, if it hasn’t already. For those of you who get everything handed to them by mommy and daddy (and I know quite a few of those), don’t judge someone on where they shop. Hell I buy off brand food, clothes at Walmart, and used cars! I have a job and work my ass off to keep my bills paid and to make sure that I have everything that I need before I even worry about what I want. My parents NEVER just handed me stuff, and honestly, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It’s a way to learn responsibility. That’s our word of the day:
RESPONSIBILITY*- reliability or dependability, especially in meeting debts or payments
If I was really worried about having name brand things, I would have a sugar daddy or something, but having something that is “better” than something someone else has is not on my mind at all. I don’t give a damn if you had the world’s top scientist and companies build you a super robot that does everything for you. That’s fine! I’d rather work, but don’t judge me and say that I don’t have it because I don’t have the money for it. That’s stupid.
SO, I guess the point I’m trying to make is don’t judge someone because they don’t have the best of the best like you do. If you have a flip phone, use the hell out of that thing! They work better than smart phones anyway. If someone says something to you about how their phone is “better,” just throw your phone at them. We all know it will still work! :)
